Do your products contain parabens?

No. Parabens are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Parabens are effective preservatives in many types of formulas. These compounds, and their salts, are used primarily for their bactericidal and fungicidal properties. Parabens are esters of para-hydroxybenzoic acid, from which the name is derived. Common parabens include methylparaben (E number E218), ethylparaben (E214), propylparaben (E216) and butylparaben. Less common parabens include isobutylparaben, isopropylparaben, benzylparaben and their sodium salts. A huge percentage of the products you buy for everyday use contain some form of paraben, so it can be difficult to find products that do not use them. Saya products do not contain chemical preservatives called parabens—methyl, propyl, butyl and ethyl (alkyl-p-hydroxybenzoates). Numerous studies show exposure displayed estrogenic activity which means that these chemicals mimic your body´s own hormones and can have endocrine-disrupting action when they are rubbed into your body or washed down the drain into your drinking water. These disruptors interfere with your body´s endocrine system: your hypothalamus, your ovaries, your thyroid—virtually every system in your body. Saya products use only naturally derived preservatives and antioxidants to help preserve and protect each product from bacterial, fungicidal, oxidative properties.

No. Saya is strongly against the use of animal derived ingredients and using ingredients that has been laboratory tested on animals. We are also against using ingredients that have a negative impact on the environment.

Do Saya products contain Palm Oil?

No. Saya products do not contain any palm oil. Palm oil is derived from the fruit of the oil palm tree. The palm fruit yields both palm oil and palm kernel oil. Palm oil is extracted from the pulp of the fruit and is an edible oil used in food. Palm kernel oil is extracted from the seed of the fruit and is used in the manufacture of cosmetics. Palm oil plantations are the main driver for deforestation in Indonesia and Malaysia. These two regions account for 85 percent of global production of palm oil. The United Nations Environment Programme has announced that palm oil plantations are now the leading cause of rainforest destruction in Malaysia and Indonesia in Southeast Asia. Throughout Southeast Asia, an area of forest equal to 300 soccer fields is being destroyed every hour. The burning of forests to clear land for palm oil plantations is a major cause of air pollution in Southeast Asia. It releases CO2 into the atmosphere which contributes to global warming. Research shows that 15% of all global carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels come from rainforest destruction. Deforestation for the establishment of palm oil plantations is responsible for habitat loss for threatened and endangered species. Priority species impacted by forest clearing are the Asian elephant, tiger, Sumatran rhinoceros and the orangutan. The Asian elephant and Bornean orangutan are endangered and the tiger, Sumatran rhinoceros and Sumatran orangutan are critically endangered. During the past decade the orangutan population has decreased by approximately 50 percent in the wild. This is primarily due to human activities including rainforest destruction for palm oil plantations. At present, 80 percent of orangutan habitat has been altered or lost. The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUNC) has classified the Bornean orangutan as Endangered with approximately 55,000 left. The Sumatran orangutan is Critically Endangered with approximately 6,300. At the current rate of deforestation could be extinct in the wild in as little as 10 years. For more information please visit the Australian Orangutan Project
