What we carry, and how we carry it

What we carry, and how we carry it

Some decisions are made once and then lived with for a long time.

The choice to source from this land. To formulate without compromise. To think carefully about what happens to a product long after it leaves your hands. At Saya, these were never separate conversations. They were the same one, had at the beginning, and returned to every time we make something new.

Plastic Free July is a global movement that each year challenges millions of people across more than 190 countries to do one simple thing: refuse single-use plastics. Not forever, not all at once, just for a month. Long enough to notice what you're reaching for, what you're throwing away, and whether there's a better way. It's a challenge we think about long before the calendar turns, because the questions it asks are ones we're already sitting with.

This felt like the right moment to share where we are. Make yourself a coffee, find somewhere comfortable, and let us tell you a few things we're genuinely proud of.

The store is open

First things first. Our Noosa flagship has just reopened after a renovation and we'd love for you to come in.

The full Saya range is here, every product, every formulation, ready to try. The refill station is up and running. And if you've been meaning to visit and haven't yet, consider this your invitation. We're here. The doors are open. Come and see us.

What's actually in your bottles

Here's something we don't talk about enough: the container matters as much as what's inside it.

We've put the same level of thought into our packaging as we have into our formulations, because it felt dishonest not to. Every material we use was chosen with a specific intention, and we think it's worth explaining why.

Our core bottles are made from RPT, recycled post-consumer plastic. Material that has already lived a full life before it reaches you. Someone else used it, it was collected and recovered, and now it's yours. There's something quietly satisfying about that. It's not glamorous. It's just the right thing to do, and it sends a signal through the supply chain that there's real demand for what already exists rather than what's yet to be made.

Our Intense Night Repair and serum bottles are glass. Indefinitely recyclable, honest in its weight, cool to the touch. Glass doesn't leach and it doesn't degrade. It also slows you down a little when you reach for it, which for a product designed for the end of the day, feels entirely appropriate.

Our AHA Micro Exfoliant, Cleansing Balm, and Hand & Body Balm live in aluminium. Lightweight, resilient, and infinitely recyclable without any loss of quality. Aluminium has been used and recovered and used again for generations. It's a material with real longevity built into it, and we find that sits well alongside the way we think about skincare.

And our Balance Moisture, Intense Moisture, and Eye Cream come in bioplastic tubes made from sugarcane. As sugarcane grows, it draws carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The bioplastic derived from it carries a significantly lower carbon footprint than conventional plastic. In your hands it feels identical. Performs identically. The difference is in the story behind it, and in the choice it represents.

None of these were the easiest or cheapest options available to us. But we've never made a product by asking what the easiest option was.

Bring your bottles back

This is the part we really want locals to hear.

If you're in Noosa and you've got empty Saya bottles sitting on your bathroom shelf, bring them in. We'll refill them. The Body Wash, Hand Wash, Shampoo, Conditioner, and Hand & Body Lotion are all available at our refill station, and you'll receive 25% off when you do.

That's it. That's the whole thing.

We built the refill programme because we wanted the right choice to feel like the obvious one. Not something that required planning or a special trip or a complicated process. Just: come in when you're running low, hand us your bottle, and leave with it full. Less waste, less spent, same Saya. And honestly, there's no better month to start than this one.

There's something else we love about it too. The return visit. The conversation at the counter. Actually seeing the people who use these products, rather than just sending boxes out into the world. Noosa has always been that kind of community, one where people are curious, where they ask questions, where the choices they make carry a bit more intention than average. The refill ritual fits that perfectly.

So if you've been thinking about it, this is the month. Come in. We'll be here.

The problem we noticed, and what we did about it

A few years ago we started paying attention to something hiding in plain sight.

Single-use plastic toiletry amenities in hotels, retreats, and wellness spaces. The small bottles in the shower. The miniatures lined up by the basin. Products designed for one stay, sometimes one use, and then gone. When you start looking at the numbers honestly, it's a lot. A single property can generate hundreds of single-use plastic amenity items every year, and across an industry, that accumulates into something genuinely difficult to sit with.

We thought we could help. So we built a 5L bulk refill range specifically for accommodation and wellness partners who wanted to make a more considered choice without their guests ever noticing a difference. The formulations are identical. The fragrance, the texture, the quality. What changes is the footprint.

What started as a local conversation has grown into something we're genuinely proud of. Saya amenities are now used by properties across Australia and internationally, from the exclusive accommodations of Noosa and Hamilton Island to superyachts in Greece. Wellness spaces in Australia such as TH7. In the United States, our products are found in some of the country's most respected wellness spaces including Remedy Place, and Heimat. These partnerships are built on shared values, on the understanding that a guest experience isn't diminished by being responsible. For guests who notice these things, and more of them do every year, it only deepens it.

If you run a hotel, a retreat, a wellness studio, or any space where people rest and reach for something to put on their skin, we'd love to talk. The programme exists because a real problem existed and we thought we could help. That's still exactly why we offer it.

What this month is really about

Plastic Free July doesn't ask for perfection. It asks for attention. A month of noticing what you reach for, what you discard, and whether a small change is possible. Across more than 190 countries and hundreds of millions of participants, those small changes have added up to something genuinely significant.

The choices that matter most are rarely the dramatic ones. They're the ones made on a Tuesday morning when you're running low on body wash and you decide to bring the bottle in rather than buy a new one. They accumulate. They compound. And eventually they become the kind of culture a place like Noosa has always deserved.

Come and see us in store. Bring your bottles. If you've got a business and a problem we might be able to help with, reach out. And if you're already making different choices quietly and without fanfare, we see you.

That's always been enough.
