Our founder, Saya McDermott, takes us on a journey in "Behind The Formulation" as she shares her personal experience of creating our top-selling Rich Body Cream. She gives us a rare insight into the inspiration behind the product and the obstacles she encountered in developing the ideal formula.
Why did you create the Rich Body Cream?
The Rich Body Cream holds a unique place in the Saya range, as it marks the expansion of my focus from facial to body care products. My journey began at the Eumundi markets, where I first sold my skincare line. It was there that I met a customer who shared her struggles with extreme dryness and psoriasis, particularly on her arms and legs. Having experienced similar skin issues, I understood the challenge of finding a product that felt comfortable on the skin while providing nurturing ingredients.
This encounter resonated with me, and I realised the need for such a product in my range. At that time, my focus was primarily on facial skincare, so this was the perfect opportunity to venture into body care. My goal was to create a luxurious and nourishing cream infused with powerful botanicals and omega fatty acids to alleviate dry skin, while maintaining a non-greasy, silky-smooth texture that would distinguish it from other body creams.
After extensive experimentation, the Rich Body Cream was born – a nourishing formula with a beautiful coconut scent. The cream leaves the skin feeling hydrated, soft, and nourished. It's carefully crafted with Shea Butter, Macadamia Oil, and Cocoa Butter, which promote skin elasticity, long-lasting hydration, and repair for dry and damaged skin. Perfecting the final formulation didn't take long, and it has since become a beloved product among my customers. I was even fortunate enough to have the same customer test my creations and provide valuable feedback, helping me fine-tune the formula.
The Rich Body Cream's effectiveness lies in its blend of botanical butters, particularly Shea Butter, Macadamia Oil, and Quandong. Quandong, a native Australian fruit, offers numerous skin benefits due to its rich antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hydrating properties. Shea Butter is especially beneficial for psoriasis-prone skin, as it provides deep hydration, anti-inflammatory effects, skin barrier protection, and soothing properties, effectively reducing skin dryness and irritation. Macadamia Oil further benefits the skin with its moisturising and healing properties, providing deep hydration and supporting skin barrier function for overall skin health.
The cream has also proven to be a game-changer for stretch marks, thanks to its rich formulation and key active ingredients. My friends, fellow mums, and I have witnessed firsthand how incredible this product is for preventing and reducing the appearance of stretch marks and scarring. The story behind the Rich Body Cream began with a personal connection to a customer and has evolved into a much-loved, top-selling product. It’s a product that was made from my desire to create products that genuinely make a difference and how life's encounters can lead to meaningful creations. I'm incredibly proud of this beautiful product, and it remains my go-to body moisturiser to this day.
