A European summer, and looking after skin in a drier climate.
A European summer slows everything down. The heat comes in early and stays, the afternoons run long, and no one seems to mind. Saya has spent this one travelling, through Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands, and most recently Greece, photographed on location with the summer at its best.
Greece might be the best of it. The water between the islands shifts colour as you go, deep blue one minute, clear enough to see the bottom the next. Hydra has no cars at all, just stone lanes and steps, and it feels like it's decided to stay exactly as it always was. Spetses has pine growing right down to the water, and you can smell the warm resin of it in the afternoon.
The Ionian is quieter and greener. Meganisi is tiny and calm. Kefalonia has Fiskardo, where the old Venetian houses light up along the waterfront at night, and Assos, a small village tucked under a ruined fort, its harbour so still it mirrors the whole town. Across the channel there's Kioni, with three windmills on the point and a view of the hills at sunset that's hard to forget.
The heat here is dry, and that catches you out. Back home our summers are humid. In Noosa and right along the Australian coast the air is thick with moisture, the salt never fully dries on your skin, and the UV runs high even under cloud. A lot of Europe is the opposite. The heat draws moisture out of the air instead of adding to it, so an afternoon that would leave you sticky at home leaves your skin tight and thirsty here. Either way, skin loses water in the heat, and a dry climate speeds that up. So two things really matter when you travel: keeping skin hydrated through the day, and putting that moisture back at night. Hydration first, then nourishment.
This is where the Rose Hydrating Mist comes in. On a long beach day, when your skin is covered in salt water and starting to feel tight, a few spritzes cool it straight away and sink in within seconds. It's packed with hyaluronic acid, Pentavitin, rose water, and cucumber extract, so it gives skin an instant hit of hydration, and it's made to be used again and again through the day. Keep it in your bag and reach for it on the beach, between swims, and through the afternoon. It's the one you take everywhere.
You eat late in Greece, and slowly. A carafe of cold local wine, tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes, fish that was caught that morning and grilled whole with just lemon and oil. No one rushes you, and no one brings the bill until you ask for it. So you sit there, half in the shade with a cat somewhere nearby, and the afternoon just keeps going. It's the kind of meal you remember for how it felt more than what you ate.
By evening your skin has been through a lot: sun, salt, wind, the whole day of it. This is the part that matters most. The Cleansing Balm warms up in your hands and takes off the salt, sunscreen, and sea in one go. Then the Renew Serum, and the Intense Night Repair while your skin is still warm and soft. Both have ceramides to soothe and restore after a day outside, along with antioxidant-rich botanicals, and nothing about it is complicated. Skin that's been in the sun all day soaks it up.
Then the Argan Body Oil, the best way to end a beach day. Skin that's spent hours in sun and salt comes back dry, and this brings it right back with deep, lasting nourishment and conditioning. Warm a few drops between your palms and work it in slowly, over your arms, shoulders, and the backs of your legs where the sun sat longest. The scent settles in, and you slow down without really meaning to. Outside, the light softens over the water and dinner's still an hour off.
And then it all comes home to Noosa. Humid, green, loud with birds, the complete opposite of that dry Greek light, and somehow the same feeling underneath. Summer is summer, wherever you are.
The best part of a summer like this is what it leaves behind. Skin that's been looked after, a bit of sun still in it, and a camera roll full of photos that never quite do it justice.
