where it all started…

Saya McDermott’s story starts over 20 years ago in her hometown of Noosa. If you haven't visited this coastal town before, imagine white sand, crystal clear waters and rich with nature - it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth. 

For most of Saya’s teenage years, she experienced her own problematic skin and was unable to find a solution to her breakouts and eczema. With limited products on the market at the time, Saya started hand-making her own products determined to find a natural cure to her skin. 

“Having struggled with bad skin for years, I found it difficult to find a product that helped my skin. It was never my intention to create a skincare brand, I just wanted to make products that would solve my skin problems.”

“I spent a lot of time researching botanical ingredients, experimenting with different formulations and learning about the powerful benefits natural ingredients could offer. In the beginning it was all trial and error until I started to see some incredible results - and that’s where my passion for skincare began.“

After seeing far less breakouts and an overall improvement in her skin, Saya started sharing her creations with family and friends. From that moment on, the Saya brand was created.

our philosophy

We believe in… highly effective, researched-based formulations. We are incredibly passionate about using Australian native botanicals in our products - these ingredients contain extraordinarily high levels of potent antioxidants, containing key anti-ageing,healing and protective compounds. 

Our Australian natives are sourced and harvested directly from communities across Australia, including local indigenous communities.These harvests support Fair Trade, community development and eco-sustainable practices.

Sustainability is at the forefront of every decision we make. We are proudly 100% Australian-owned (and female founded!) and believe in supporting and maintaining strong relationships with the Australian communities who work and support us along every step of the process. 

Our products are ACO COSMO Organic Certified, a globally recognised certification. This holds our brand and product to an extremely high standard, ensuring we source the highest quality ingredients for purity, traceability and sustainability. 

Every ingredient in our formulations has been chosen with intention, is backed by science and loved by the skin. Our entire range is vegan friendly and cruelty-free, tested by us - never on animals. We believe that effective skincare shouldn’t be at the expense of a living creature.

our approach

We are constantly looking for ways to improve our carbon footprint in everything that we do. We use a mixture of glass, recycled plastic (rPET) and sugarcane-derived plastic tubing across our range. In 2022, we have committed to switching to more sustainable packaging and screen printing our entire range of products - saying goodbye to soft plastic labelling.
